The Lower East Side had a food-filled fiesta on Thursday, August 20 as downtown New Yorkers said bienvenida to Miscelanea, the newest neighborhood spot.


The Zagat rated Mexican market and general store sells authentic specialty items, like Mexican cookbooks, tobacco-scented candles, and tortillera negras, as well as carefully curated body care products, and upscale pantry items, like flavored salsas, jams, and aguas frescas.


Miscelanea also sells grab-and-go housemade tortas, chilaquiles, and esquites during lunchtime from noon until 4 p.m. Hot and iced coffee is served all day along, with unique barista concoctions like iced cafe with rice-milk drink horchata.


Thursday’s celebration included owner Guillaume GuevaraOlivia Villanti, Rachel Vivanco, Alejandra Palafox, Amber Mam, Christina Perez, Rachel Allswang, Sebastian Vivanco, Jackie NasserIzaskun Pineda, Maya Galbis, Leiti Hsu, Sara Yerry, Costanza Theodoli-BraschiCatherine Dash, and Ivan Martinez. Guests christened the new space with mini seasonal paletas, or ice pops, by La Newyorkina, tequila drinks and Oaxaca cheese by the pound.
