New Yorkers For Children Hosts 2016 Gala

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

On the heels of New York Fashion Week came the celebration of a charity that has sewn itself into the fabric of New York City. The annual New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala was held on Thursday, September 15, at Cipriani’s 42nd Street location. Sponsored by Chloé, the event marked both the beginning of a new school year for the children involved in the organization, as well as the 17th year of the Fall Gala.

New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) is in its 20th year of existence. Originally founded by Nicholas Scoppetta, who passed away in March 2016, the organization seeks to aid children in the New York City foster care system. NYFC’s efforts are further defined by providing programs, such as tutoring and job training. They also help provide students with college scholarships.

The evening culminated with music, dining and a live auction to support the cause. Those in attendance included Kelly Rutherford, Dree Hemingway, Jodie Snyder, Wes Anderson, Indre Rockefeller and singer Trey Songz. Walgreens vice president Steve Pemberton honored the late Scoppetta by serving as the host for the night, and distributed the awards.

Musician Cobi, who is known for his soulful and blues-inspired sound, gave a musical performance kicking off the night. Later in the evening, a spirited auction raised $300,000. In total, the organization was able to raise $1.3 million through the event.
