The mood is the message when shopping at the just opened NOIR Boutique on Bergdorf Goodman’s second floor. Conceived with love and taste by Linda Fargo, the store’s glam SVP and Fashion Director, the space oozes attitude. That’s not something easily found today. Linda wants to take us back to black, though many, especially in New York, have never really left the shade. As Linda says, “Noir is more than a color; it’s the ultimate signal of style”.

Noir, the boutique, is exciting, exclusive and elusive. You will find labels you love, and many that you will be hearing more about. Tom Ford, Off-White, Prada, Valentino, Gucci, Valentino, Rick Owens, The Row, Givenchy, Brandon Maxwell, Co, Chloe, Tre, Richard Quinn, Libertine, McQueen, Attico, Oscar de la Renta, Monse and dozens more. Everyone agrees that black is a good idea. Many of the pieces–glam evening gowns, dresses, jackets, jewels, masks, headpieces and more–are made exclusively for Noir.

Craving the hooded dress? The hood comes off, so you get two pieces in one. There are those of us who have never met a sequin we didn’t love, Dare to wear silver and black animal print sequin super slims pants, or a Tom Ford leopard sparkle trouser suit or a liquid sequin Beverly Hills sweatshirt. But there are plenty of other kinds of statement pieces waiting to be discovered, too. Red, white and grey are also perfect foils for black. A red dress with a waist wrapped in a serpent embroidery, sharp and shiny jackets jacket over a silver mesh dress, a toned down red and grey fur cuffed jacket. Or just don a simple sculptural Brandon Maxwell gown. Or a perfect body con St. Laurent column. Wear a perfect silver sequin sheath topped off with an exclusive to Noir black feather headdress. This is paparazzi bait, not for the faint of heart, but if a picture is worth a thousand words-what else need be said?

Consider a perfect bodconscious St. Laurent column.

While one of the best parts of shopping is the hunt, bagging the find is better. Noir is for a dedicated shopper who wants the most unique pieces. The BG staff will help you decode and discover all that is in the shop.

Accessories do make the outfit. When you shop in this fairytale closet you will find so many pieces to amp up a look, and make it your own. Try some Valentino brocade boots. Sophisticated? Yep. Maybe you should also try the red boots, the studded boots, the gold boots, the ankle boots in patent or squishy leather. Stock up on slinky heels from Vivier, Louboutin, Manolo, Zanotti, Prada, and so many others. Sparkly stones, embroidery, feathers and flames. Anything but boring solid textures and shapes.

Bags: want one, need one or both? You will find beautiful ones chez Noir. Fanciful bags from Nancy Gonzalez, stand out pieces from Fendi, Givenchy, Staud, Valentino, Gucci, St. Laurent, and McQueen, to name a few. Trimmed in feathers and fur, sparkle and magic, logoed and discreet, velvet and leather. Structured or fluid. All selected with a discerning eye. Discover capelets and shrugs. Try an exclusive chain mesh shoulder cover. Scarves and wraps hide and reveal.

Day or evening, you need underpinnings Noir doesn’t neglect them. Find a delicious selection of lingerie in the sexiest colors imaginable. Linda leaves nothing to chance. She understands that you must start from the inside out to stand out. And never forget jewelry. Diamante insects and other critters, one of a kind earrings, necklaces, rings and baubles. Try the masks- from the super silky simple sleep masks, to the intricate made for Noir feathered masks and headpieces, and the small bejeweled ones. Make Halloween and Carnivale and everyday celebration.

Look to Noir for elements to enrich your lifestyle. The chicest teas from Marriage Frères- black of course – or caviar and truffled nibbles. Need a gift for friend, family or yourself? Vintage books fit the theme, as well as a large assortment of the best photography, travel, personality focused and visually overwhelming tomes. Enrich your life with scented candles from Fornasetti, Diptyique and scents from Kilian, Initio, Tom Ford and Heretic among others.

The right cosmetics to enhance your Noir lifestyle are not overlooked. The shade of lipstick or polish makes a difference. You’ll also find pieces for the home, notecards, sublime notebooks, objects and glasses from Lalique, Barccarat and Artel.

You feel the Noir vibe the minute you step onto the second floor. Enjoy the tableaux that are placed along the walls and corridors. Artistic and interesting. Moody and evocative. It’s refreshing to be theatrically drawn into a shopping experience. It’s certainly something that we, as customers, enjoy and respond too.

Let Noir draw you in as you enter or leave the store. Surprise awaits.

As Yohji Yamamoto said,

“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time.

Black is lazy and easy- but mysterious.

But, above all, black says this:

‘I don’t bother you – don’t bother me.’”
