From fighting TV crime on NBC’s revered Law & Order to fighting Cancer through her strong affiliation with CancerCare, an organization that makes professional support freely accessible to struggling cancer patients and families, is Golden Globe recipient S. Epatha Merkerson. NYC’s The Mandarin Oriental was the home to last week’s Annual Spring Gala, which honored the beloved actress for her vigorous philanthropic efforts while simultaneously raising more than $520,000 for the nonprofit through a live auction hosted by Sotheby’s Executive VP, C. Hugh Hildesley. Auction items included two passes to the upcoming Emmy Awards and a romantic 6-day getaway to a pied-à-terre in Paris.

The evening opened with a cocktail hour attended by Board of Trustees President Susan S. Smirnoff, Chief Executive Officer Helen H. Miller, and Committee Chairs Cornelia and Rob Spring. Guests like Morton Ginsberg, Tim Dwyer, and Linda Loye embraced the night with dashing smiles and pride. This beautiful night filled with hope and celebration had an exciting close as Whoopi Goldberg handed over this year’s Help and Hope award to Merkerson for her inspiring dedication to the fight against cancer, shining as a hero both on and off the screen.

It’s great to see some of New York’s finest gathered together to honor a beloved cause through fine dining and fun.
