Chi Zhang presented his avante-garde and '90s hip-hop inspired collection. The designer, in his second showing in New York, selected the Intrepid Air and Space Museum as his venue. Points for originality for being the only designer to show under a space shuttle.

What do you think fashion says about America?

Energy.

What's one item in your collection you don't think anyone can live without?

I'm wearing it. This oversized faux fur jacket with red patent leather trim.

What's changed for you from your first fashion week to this one?

It's been good. This time it is more my style. This time we got a venue I liked and we've showing more pieces. My coats and sweaters are better this season too.

Why did you choose the Intrepid as your venue?

It's very iconic for New York. It's also something very special for New York Fashion Week.
