April 13th marked The New York Public Library’s 35th annual Library Lunch, and the event was one for the books indeed.

Held at the Celeste Bartos Forum in the Library’s landmark Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, the mid-day event was attended by more than 400 guests to celebrate today’s most compelling writers. Fittingly, the theme was “New York State of Mind” and brought together writer-comedian and television host Samantha Bee, author and theatre critic Hilton Als and essayist Adam Gopnik in conversation with New Yorker editor-in-chief David Remnick. Elegant as always, the space was decked out in classic New York style—with centerpiece décor including yellow taxi cab trinkets, Empire State Building statuettes, and old school books on Gotham, upon fresh, colorful flowers.

Co-chairs of the event included Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos, Louise Grunwald, AVENUE editor–in-chief Daisy Prince, David Remnick, Zibby Right, and Alexandra Wentworth. Guests mingled throughout the afternoon while dining to a delectable meal complete with a glass of Chardonnay. The event was generously sponsored by Asprey with Literary Partner The New Yorker. All proceeds went to support the Library’s mission to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge in communities all over New York City.
