Painting Barneys Red

Thursday, November 3, 2011

“It’s hard to believe that it has been 20 years,” Christian Louboutin told AVENUEinsider at Barneys’ star-studded celebration of both the 20th anniversary of his iconic brand and the launch of his eponymous book by Rizzoli. The designer’s signature red soles are a staple of any fashion fête, but they were of special preeminence on Tuesday evening, as hosts Amanda Brooks, Ann Dexter-Jones, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, China Chow, Blake Lively, and Elettra Wiedemann all looked a little taller (save Ashley, who wore Louboutin tassled loafers) whilst welcoming other chic, loyal fans like Calvin Klein, Alexis Bryan Morgan, Keren Craig, Leigh Lezark, Zani Gugelmann, and Tyrese Gibson.

The red lighting and red curtains diligently matched the soles that flashed beneath the ankles of the Loub-clad guests, who grooved to the tunes of The Misshapes while waiting in line for the shoe guru to sign copies of his book, which has a forward written by John Malkovich—proof that his fan club ends neither with the ladies nor the fashion crowd. Blake Lively was a late arrival, and in a body-hugging Dolce and Gabbana dress and python Louboutin heels, set the nearly retired flashbulbs roaring. The actress and Gossip Girl claims to own hundreds of Louboutins, but apparently she doesn’t have to suffer for her fashion too often.  In what is sure to be an iconic paparazzi moment for years to come, the shoe designer himself picked up Lively and carried her down the street to the après-celebration at Le Caprice. Some girls have all the luck…
