Picnic Time for Chat Noirs

Thursday, August 3, 2017

It’s a hot summer in the city, but step into Central Park, and the temperature noticeably drops a few degrees. It’s the perfect place for a picnic.

“Central Park is amazing. We’re very fortunate to have this piece of nature in a concrete jungle, and that our forefathers had the foresight to create this oasis,” says Suzanne Latapie, owner of Upper East Side establishment Bistro Chat Noir.

To help city families connect with nature, Latapie has launched a new gourmet picnic basket service with Bistro Chat Noir. Called gourmet-to-go, the baskets are customizable with appetizers and entrees suitable for two people, and can be taken anywhere from Central Park to Governors Island to the Hamptons.

“I love the Conservatory Gardens,” says Latapie of her favorite place in the park to have a picnic. She raised her family in the city. “I know what it’s like to take kids out to see nature. I think it’s such a nice thing to do,” she continues. Members of the Central Park Conservancy agree, as many at the annual Taste of Summer event in June commented on their favorite place to have a picnic.

“It’s about spending time with each other,” Latapie continues. “So much of our times these days are spent on our phones. [When you picnic], you’re sitting on the grass and you’re enjoying each other’s company.”

Much like the stuffed bears in the song, Teddy Bears’ Picnic

The little Teddy Bears are having

A lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares

And see them picnic on their holiday
