New York City is in a Pop-Up state of mind for the 2018 Holidays. Two of the best have just opened in Tribeca. Let’s take a trip downtown and explore.

Luisaviaroma @ Spring Studios hybrid pop-up

Anyone who has visited Florence, Italy for pleasure or business will have been to LuisaViaRoma, the ultimate hip luxury boutique on the aforesaid Via Roma. And many of you probably shop on their now 20 year old website, LuisaViaRoma.com. Andrea Panconesi, the forward thinking owner of the store had a holiday vision for his store that brought part of it to New York for the first time. The Florence store was “reconstructed” on the inside by architect and designer Christina Celestino, to resemble an imaginary Home for the Holidays. LUISAVIAROMA@SPRING STUDIOS HYBRID POP-UP has just opened at Spring Studios. It is the last room of the house, a pastel back yard, pool and palms included. Find a collection of holiday themed T’s, sweaters, tops and throws that are stocked in the store. Fireside to poolside they will have you covered. Missoni, Moschino, Ferretti, Versace and more.

Luxury fashion sets the tone here. Clothing and accessories are creatively displayed. Bags from Fendi and Off-White and colorful Gucci finds hang on colorful pipe racks. It’s a tightly edited selection of the coolest of the cool. Gucci parkas, jackets and sweaters, with bags and shoes artfully arranged around the space.

Men’s clothing leans more to the best luxury streetwear vibe. Off-White signature pieces, curated pieces from Balenciaga sit against the logo “wallpaper” created by Ms Celestino on the right hand side of the pool.

The concept is hot, and the clothing hotter. Sequins, lace, leather and more.  While the Holiday collection is stocked in New York, the balance of the 300 curated pieces are part of the fascinating concept of the shop. You work with a stylist and select your pieces. There are large freestanding interactive screens, where you can order your selection, and perhaps add on more, with the help of the stylists who are the pop-up gurus. Your purchases will arrive at your home in a day or two, straight from Italy. The screens are interesting to interact and play with, and you can explore the rest of the LuisaViaRoma world. Hybrid shopping indeed.

The women’s clothes are displayed against candy stripe walls, and light pours in through the back. Faith Connection, Ferretti, Attico, and Pucci sparkle. Denim Balenciaga graffiti jackets, a line of “drugged out” pieces from Raf Simons and cool kicks from Versace and Off-White complete the men’s selection.

Lounge around in Burberry slides and grab the backpack, or have a city day in Balenciaga. Try a red suit, or a pair of pants dripping crystals. Hang around Spring Studios, you never know who will be coming and going. Sit by the pool, soak up the tropical atmosphere. The video display, commissioned for the space, will take you to another place. You might not want to leave.

HYBRID POP-UP AT SPRING STUDIOS 6 St John’s Lane through December 15th. After that www.luisaviaroma.com.

On the other side of Tribeca in a newly restored landmark building, Spanish born designer Alejandra Alonso Rojas has opened a pop-up offering clothing and parts of her collection of 20th century furniture from the 20’s to the 50’s. The clothing and furniture work well together.

The designer draws her inspiration from her family heritage. A large brand book is on display, a collage of images from past generations that have inspired her, as well as family photos on the walls of the gallery like space. Her collections started with her love of knitting that had always been a part of her life. The signature knits are here, but a new unisex sustainable cashmere collection has been added. The pieces go from day to evening, and are a relaxed lifestyle collection. Leather and shearling are also part of her vocabulary. From a perfect leather flight jacket, inspired by the ones her great aunt, named Africa, wore while she flew the small planes of the 1920’s to soft pink and grey longer coats and wraps. Shearling is also an integral part of the furniture restoration she does, covering chairs and sofas with the cozy material. The chairs, sofa and lighting were found in stores and markets, restored and reworked to perfection. When asked about maintaining the pieces she laughs, and recounts how durable the material is and how easy the pieces are to clean.

Find floaty chiffon evening dresses, and pieces mixing leather and wovens. Satins, prints, and knit dresses work along the signature sweaters.  The pop-up will feature exclusive services that include custom tailoring and embroidery to personalize the clothing purchases. The covetable furniture is for sale at the pop-up, as well as restored and reworked vases and other pieces Alejandra found on her journeys around the world.

ALEJANDRA ALSONSO ROJAS POP-UP. 62 White Street, just off Broadway until December 5th. After that the collection is available at Fivestory, 18 E 69 Street.
