Lisa Perry visits Villa d’Este for work and play

Equal parts fashion and art lover, Lisa Perry travels around the world for anything from work on her clothing and accessories brand to building her extensive art collection. Even with her demanding projects, she manages to find time to relax and smell the Italian jasmine vines. Having grown up surrounded by rich textilesboth as part of her family’s business and in a childhood home full of Marimekko fabricsit should be no surprise that Lisa’s favorite place to travel involves some of the world’s most famous mills.

Ciao, bella

My favorite place in the world to travel is Lake Como, Italy; it is breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful. When I stay at the Villa d’Este, I feel like I am transported back in time to the glamorous 1960s. I can picture Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida and Audrey Hepburn sitting on the terrace having cocktails overlooking the lake in their fabulous Pucci and Missoni palazzo pant outfits.

An Italian oasis

I like the option of doing absolutely nothing. I go there to rest after working in Milan—so it’s a great feeling to not have an agenda for a c hange. If I get bored, I play tennis, go kayaking or paddle boarding, or go for a boat ride. Also in June, the jasmine vines are in full bloom and the air is filled with the most gorgeous scent you can imagine. You really do not have to leave the property, but if one wants to, the village of Cernobbio is very charming. There are delicious

restaurants, including Gatto Nero, with its spectacular views from the top of the hill. I have a passion for beautiful textiles and Como is home to many famous mills, including Ratti, which has a print archive the size of a football field.

Artistic anthropology

I am always inspired when I go to Europe and see the most stylish women in the world. They epitomize effortless chic. I love going to a new museum each time I visit a city. I always find a piece of art that somehow makes its way into my collection. I also love exploring and discovering new stores; it’s great research.

Something sweet for the road

I can’t pass a candy store anywhere without going inside but that is especially true in Europe because the displays are so

beautiful. They do the most wonderful things with marshmallow twists! I always pick up a piece or two or three!

I can’t travel without my iPad, which has all my books and newspapers on it.
