The Vessel, Thomas Heatherwick‘s $150 million stairway-cum-artwork, is already being assembled by a tall white crane on the grounds of Hudson Yards, Related Company’s city-in-a-city over the former railroad yards in Midtown West. Related’s mammoth investment in New York City’s future inspired the theme of the first in a new series of Salon Dinners hosted by AVENUE Thursday night at the Yards’ Experience Center, a real estate fun park (and sales center) on the 24th Floor of 10 Hudson Yards, the first building to open on the sprawling property.

The featured speaker was Yvonne Force Villareal, the co-founder of Art Production Fund and founding partner of Culture Corps. Villareal, who appeared on the December 2016 cover of AVENUE with her husband, the light sculptor Leo Villareal, was introduced by AVENUE Editor-in-Chief Michael Gross, who co-hosted the evening.

The evening began with tours of the fun park led by representatives of Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, the sales agents for Hudson Yards—accompanied by Vie Vité rosé and champagne and hors d’ouerves prepared by chef Stephanie Nass (aka Chefanie). She is the founder of Victory Club, a member’s-only society that combines fine dining and arts appreciation at its dinners in galleries, museums, artists’ studios, private art collections, and restaurants with art collections. Victory Club is based in New York, but has also had pop ups in London, Miami, Nashville, and the Hamptons.

A seated dinner and spirited conversation followed, both inspired by the subject and icons of public art. As Villareal led a tour of some of her greatest public art hits, guests enjoyed unique dishes from Prada Marfa soup to Seven Magic Mountains cake, each inspired by one of the projects funded, encouraged and produced under Villareal’s auspices.

Among the guests at the dinner, which was co-hosted by Randi Schatz, AVENUE Media’s president, were art advisor Carol Strone and her husband Dan Strone, the president of Trident Media Group, Marcia and Richard Mishaan, the noted interior designer, Sierra Dehghan with Josh Martin, a linebacker with the New York Jets, Ken and Maria Fishel, Stuart and Marni Hersch, Cheri Kaufman and Bill Sclight, Kathy Reilly and Kevin Scherer, Norah Lawlor and Jeffrey Bradford, Jiawen Li and Nick Makarov, Gregory Surabian, Elizabeth Margulies and more.
