Rachel Roy

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Fashion designer and philanthropist Rachel Roy was born and raised in California. After graduation from college in Washington DC, she moved to New York to continue her work in retail and as a stylist. She then collaborated with the founders of Rocawear (co-founder Damon Dash soon became her hubby), which led to an internship with the then fledgling label.

Roy’s eponymous Rachel Roy launched in Spring 2005 and has been seen on the likes of Michelle Obama, Diane Sawyer, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Iman, Lucy Liu, Sharon Stone and Penelope Cruz.

It doesn’t hurt that this stunner is the perfect model for her ultra feminine creations. Roy designs for powerful females like herself who value making bold statements when they enter a room. “I love strong, creative women who are not afraid to be trailblazers and individuals,” she says. “They dress for the mood and spirit that they are in, as opposed to the trends.” Roy describes her look as “classic with a twist.” Don’t expect any plain Janes wearing her designs. “If you want the girl next door, go next door,” she advises.

She’s often seen at around town at the hottest screenings, fashion events and parties with friends Russell Simmons and Drena de Niro. This Cali girl is not only talented and beautiful, she’s a proud mom of two daughters, Ava and Tallulah.
