Rainy Days: Staying Chic Despite the Showers

Friday, April 17, 2015

While we eagerly await the “May flowers” portion of the rhyme, staying chic despite the often-unexpected April showers can really put a damper–literally–on the spring looks we’ve been wanting to wear since October. Fortunately for those of us without work-to-home car service, there are tons products, from serums to shoes, designed to help us transition back to dry land.

1. Oribe Supershine Moisturizing cream

Though it may seem counterintuitive to add even more moisture to your hair when it’s pouring outside, Oribe’s blend of macadamia oils and replenishing vitamins actually work together to protect against humidity and de-frizz hair. With a pea-sized amount smoothed through wet or dry locks, your mane stays smooth, sleek, and frizz-free.

$50, Neiman Marcus

2. Loeffler Randall “Rain Fenton” rain boots

Durable enough to splash through the Madison Square Park puddles but sophisticated enough for après-work cocktails, these chic ankle boots feature matte rubber and gold hardware so sleek no one would guess they’re designed for the rain.

$195, Barneys New York.

3. Burberry Hooded Trenchcoat

One of the most iconic and versatile fashion staples of all time is the tan trenchcoat, particularly those of the Burberry variety. With fibers that wick away moisture and a storm flap, the coat provides the ultimate in rainy day comfort while the lux material, waist-cinching belt and double-breasted front means you’ll always look good and stay dry, even while fighting for a cab on Fifth.

$1,595, Saks Fifth Avenue

4. MoMA Sky umbrella

A good umbrella might be the biggest duh of all when it comes to staying dry despite the downpour, but a good umbrella and a good, stylish umbrella are two entirely different worlds. Adding an artistic infusion to a black umbrella, this Tibor Kalman and Emanuela Frattini Magnusson-designed creation gives you a sunny outlook on life, even when New York skies are cloudy.

$55, Museum of Modern Art
