On The Avenue

Ralph Lauren Toasts Gloria Vanderbilt’s World

Friday, November 5, 2010

Last night the new Ralph Lauren store on Madison Avenue was packed for the party the designer himself hosted for Wendy Goodman‘s new book on Gloria Vanderbilt, aptly titled “The World of Gloria Vanderbilt.”

It was socialite and movie star gridlock on the second floor where Goodman and Vanderbilt signed copies of the coffee table tome about the legendary designer/socialite/style icon. Andy Cohen arrived with his BFF Sarah Jessica Parker. Uma Thurman chatted with Camilla Bell in a roped-off V.I.P. section, while Anderson Cooper (Vanderbilt’s son) laughed with comedian Kathy Griffin. Also there: Ricky Lauren, David Lauren and Lauren Bush, Gloria Steinem, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, Alina Cho, Aerin Lauder, Helen Lee Schifter, Chipp Kidd, Anne Slater, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Bettina Zilkha, Richard and Karen LeFrak, Jamie Johnson, Joey Grey, Lydia Fenet, Virginia Smith and Lauren Remington Platt, who was in a red equestrian jacket and huge skirt – very Ralph. She looked as if she could ride off on a horse and hit a black tie bash at the same time.

The line of people to have their book signed was enormous and snaked into another adjoining room. Remember when Gloria Vanderbilt had her own line of jeans? Time to search on eBay!
