Last Tuesday, March 10, the Randall’s Island Park Alliance hosted its annual Fielding Dreams Gala Dinner at the American Museum of Natural History. The event gathered more than 600 high-profile philanthropists; City officials; and leaders in sports, health and finance to celebrate the continued success of the park and to champion Randall’s island as the key to providing New York City’s children with innovative and comprehensive opportunities for outdoor sports and recreation.

The Gala also recognized two esteemed community members: Victor Cruz, New York Giants wide receiver, and Lucy Fato, exuctive vice president and general counsel of McGraw Hill Financial, for recognizing the importance of promoting active and healthy living for New York’s children.

Victor Cruz was presented the award by his mother and said: “I am living proof of the positive results that participation in youth athletics can yield. Growing up playing sports instilled in me the skills and motivation necessary to become a professional athlete and team player.” He was honored for his commitment to helping local youths achieve success in higher education, become leaders in their communities and adopt healthy and active lifestyles through his participation in the Victor Cruz Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club.

Lucy Fato also spoke and received her award from Zachary W. Carter, corporation counsel of the City of New York, for her dedication and participation on the board of Amref Health Africa and other New York Organizations.

The Gala was hosted by NBC Today’s Willie Geist and Co-chaired by Timothy Barefield and Justin G. Hamill, with Dinner Committee Co-chairs Christine Mack and Jenny Slayton Green.

The evening ended with an energetic live auction directed by Sebastian Clarke, Rago Arts & Auction and PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, featuring items like VIP passes to the multi-‐day Governor’s Ball Music Festival on Randall’s Island and a once in a lifetime opportunity to join Victor Cruz at the New York Giants’ training camp in August.
