Red carpet and red-soled shoes

Last night, Hollywood heavyweights and New York notables alike gathered for the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival at the World Financial Plaza. In true film festival form, it was a grand, grand opening night. Overlooking the Hudson River, was a fabulous performance by a legend in fabulous shoes. But first, the red carpet.

Attendees included but were certainly not limited to: Martin Scorsese, Arianna Huffington, Mayor Bloomberg, Grace Hightower De Niro (she is married to the founder!), Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch, Lauren Hutton, Nanette Lepore and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen-who chose not to stop and pose (as their Full House character Michelle Tanner put it best, “how rude!”). We still love them.

Wrapping up the opening night? Sir Elton John. Decked out in a pair of spiked Louboutin dress shoes. Amaze.

John hit the red carpet before the screening of The Union, the music documentary directed by Cameron Crowe and starring himself and his idol, Leon Russell. After which, Sir Elton took the stage to perform, of course, “The Union”, and other faves like “Tiny Dancer,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues,” “Your Song” (our personal fave) and “Rocket Man”.
