Rome on the East River

Friday, December 7, 2018

Pamela Talese comments on urban development with the paintings in her current show at the Robert Simon Gallery—which seems an amusingly prescient prediction of Amazon’s expansion to New York as well as a commentary on everything from the Trump administration to the of course, totally unrelated issue of industrial society’s moral decay.

Raised in New York City by her parents the literary icons Gay and Nan Talese, Pamela has long focused her art on her hometown. Her new show finds echoes of the corruption of Rome with that of the modern United States.

This is the first time the Robert Simon Gallery is curating a contemporary art show and it will culminate with a talk with Talese at the gallery on December 12th. PAINTING THE THIRD ROME, a conversation with the artist, Robert Simon (art historian, art dealer, and lover of Rome), and Luigi Ballerini, (Emeritus Professor UCLA) will begin at 6:30. A reception will follow.  The Robert Simon Gallery is located at 22 East 80th Street.
