It was a night blending anachronism (meringue-confection gowns, elbow length gloves, uniformed cadets) with contemporary social reflections (cell phones, selfies) when forty-six young women made their bows to society at the 62nd International Debutante Ball and Dinner Dance on Thursday at The Pierre Hotel. This year’s debutantes represented England, France, Scotland, China, Canada and 13 American states. Each debutante was accompanied by her own escort in white tie and tails.
This year’s debutantes included, representing the UNITED STATES – Camila Mendoza Echavarrìa, Daughter of Adrianna Echavarrìa Eisenhower and Eduardo Mendoza de la Tore, grandmother of Anne Eisenhower, and great-great-granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Representing ENGLAND: Cameron DeVere Nix and India Gray Nix, daughters of Count and Countess Ulrik Christian Trampe of London, England and Greenwich, Connecticut. They are direct descendants of William I, John I and the Magna Charta Sureties and of George Washington. Representing FRANCE - Alix de Chabot, daughter of Viscomte and Viscomtesse Phillipe de Chabot. Representing SCOTLAND – Lady Louisa Murray, daughter of Earl and Countess of Mansfield of the magnificent Scone Palace in Perth, Scotland. Representing CHINA - Wendy Yu, daughter of Jingyuan Yu and Xiaozhen Fan of China. Her father is the founder of Mengtian Group. She is a young philanthropist and entrepreneur who is the founder and CEO of the investment fund Yu Capital. Jacqueline Jiang, daughter of Joanna Jiang.
Representing CONNECTICUT - Ryland Schley Hughes, of Greenwich. Ryland’s mother, Rebecca Ellis Chase Hughes’ aunt, Margaret Chase Hager, is mother-in-law of former President George W. Bush’s daughter, Jenna. Representing FLORIDA - Connor Alexandra Castellano and Diana Ashley Castellano, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Castellano twin nieces of Count and Countess Oleg Cassini. Representing NEW YORK - Elisabeth Crisler Quick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Quick. Mr. Quick was former president of the American Stock Exchange and is the mayor of Mill Neck, New York. Elisabeth’s mother is president of The Finance Department. Representing TEXAS – Caroline Chambers Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Jones of Dallas. Mr. Jones is the CEO and Executive Vice President of the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. Anna Riley Crenshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Crenshaw of Austin. Anna Riley’s father, Ben, is a professional golfer, former Ryder Cup captain and in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Kittsie Ann Klaes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Earl Klaes of Houston. Kittsie’s grandfather, Charlie Thomas, was a former owner of the Houston Rockets and received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1999. Representing VIRGINIA – Helen-Anne Stearns Gable, daughter of Mr. James Stearns and the Hon. Lisa Guillermin Gable. Helen-Anne’s father is with Comcast and her mother has held various political positions and is presently Chief of Global Public Policy Development at PepsiCo.
The International Debutante Ball, founded in 1954, is considered one of the most prestigious debutante presentations.
This year the Honorary Chairmen are Ms. Anne Eisenhower, Mrs. David Hamilton and Ms. Julia Irene Kauffman. The Director and General Chairman is Mrs. Gregory S. Hedberg and the Chairmen include Mrs. Andrew Beer, Mrs. Spencer Neville Brown, Mrs. Ryland Chase, Ms. Julie Nixon Eisenhower, Ms. Susan Eisenhower and Ivan Obolensky. The Ball benefits The International Debutante Ball Foundation Charities, including the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club of New York City.
