“I’ve been busy,” Wilbur Ross, the Secretary of Commerce, said after a Sutton Place neighbor greeted him and wife Hilary Geary–“It’s been awhile”–at the third annual Opening Night of TEFAF New York Fall benefit for The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

“Let’s not go there,” the neighbor replied.

For a brief moment that night, political paroxysm was replaced by philanthropy and appreciation of a gentler past in the aisles of the Park Avenue Armory, as the wide range of New York’s society and meritocracy mingled easily among the Old Master paintings, antiquarian relics, and contemporary jewelry on display.

Here was Jo Carole Lauder, there Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Travis and Nick Acquavella, Debra and Leon Black, Mary Snow, Jennifer Creel, Alexandra Lind Rose, Kitty Sherrill, Kelly Behun, Nina Carbone, Shelley and Michael Carr, Austen Cruz, Kate and Andrew Davis, Lauren Santo Domingo, Hilary Dick, Brent and Michael Winston, Alan Gerry, Lily Safra, Whitney Robinson, Marco Felci, Nancy Feetham, Lucia and Luisa Beccaria, Eugenie Niven Goodman, Jerry Hall, Virginia W. Kertess, Karen Thornwell May, Annie Taube, Amanda Taylor, Linda Robinson, Marisa Rose van Bokhorst, Adrienne and Gianluigi Vittadini, Madeline Weinrib, Alex Papachristidis and Scott Nelson, and Amanda Waldron
