It was an evening celebrating science on July 14th in Bridgehampton as The South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO) and The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCR) honored standouts in their scientific fields and leaders in The East End community.


SOFO’s 29th Annual Summer Gala Benefit, celebrating environmental and educational visionaries, was held at the museum, which is the only one of its kind on The South Fork.


Courtney Ross, founder of The Ross School was honored alongside Dr. Don Church, President of Global Wildlife Conservation (GWC), a specialist in the conservation of globally threatened species. His colleague and Chief Conservation Officer, Dr. Russell Mittermeier, a TIME magazine “Hero for the Planet,” was also recognized.


Nancy Atlas and Nancy Atlas Project Band performed for guests including Peter Beard, Andy Sabin, Jonathan and Susie Sabin, Nicole Teitler, Kristen Dehler, Chef Marco and Sheila Barilla, Frank Quevedo and Nick and Christina Martin.


Across town, Maria and Kenneth Fishel hosted SWCRF’s 14th Annual Hamptons Happening at their estate. WCBS News’ Chris Wragge emceed the gala, benefiting the 42-year-old organization that has granted almost $100 million to cancer research.


Honorees included StarChefs Rising Star Chef Award recipient Matt Lambert, as well as fashion designer Ramy Brook and Joe Farrell, founder and President of Farrell Building Company.


SWCRF was founded by Waxman and seeks to eradicate cancer and develop less invasive means of treating the disease, which affects roughly 42 million people worldwide.


Guests included Marc Leder, Sheldon Solow, Melissa and Bradley Fishel, Debby Hymowitz, Robert Sharp, Andrea Fornarola, Robin Lathrop, Jeff Tarr, Luciana Pampolane and Veronica and Richard Pasterelli.
