On March 31st, designer Prabal Gurung and singer-songwriter Sophie Auster hosted a special screening of a new short film by Maggie Betts entitled, “Engram.” The event was sponsored by Tiffany & Co., and  was attended by a handful of notables including the movie’s co-stars Isabel Lucas and Oliver Ackland, fashion designers Olivier Theyskens and Thakoon Panichgul, and Barbara Bush.

The film, which is set between the Berkshires and NYC’s West 4th subway station, probes the complex notions of time, memory, and love.

Why did Betts choose such a difficult, abstract subject for her movie, you ask?

“A year ago my mom had surgery, and we had always known about this very traumatic experience that happened when she was five years old, but she could never remember any of it,” explained Betts. “When she came out of surgery, she was all of a sudden describing all of these details of the event; it all came back to her. I started researching memory and just became fascinated.”
