Last night, Cinema Society and HBO Films hosted a screening of “The Sunset Limited” at the Time Warner Center. Hollywood legends Tommy Lee Jones (producer and star of the film) and Samuel L. Jackson (the only other character in the film) along with fellow actors like Josh Duhamel, Patricia Clarkson, Stephen Baldwin, Tamara Tunie and Will Estes, posed for pictures while guests enjoyed cocktail hour overlooking Columbus Circle.

In the theatre, Baldwin blew kisses to his pals as he shimmied  his way to his seat with his daughter, Alia. The film certainly was a “perfect storm of talent and artistry” said best by Len Amato (President of HBO Films). I, assumingly not unlike the others in the room, was not prepared for the intense exchange of ideas presented throughout the film. “The Sunset Limited” managed to be humorous while forcing the audience to think about the value of their own existence (as Jones and Jackson’s character do throughout). Genius. But then again, what do you expect with a cast like this one.

The after party/dinner at Porter House was much lighter, possibly the result of the wine but more likely because of the guest list: Cormac McCarthy (the writer), 50 Cent, Josh Lucas, Paul Haggis, Lee Daniels, Jason Reitman, Epatha Merkerson, James Badge Dale, Kathie Lee Gifford, Judd Hirsch, Kit Harington, Irina Shayk, Marcus Wainwright, Richard Meier, Daniel Benedict, Johannes Huebl, Jamie Tisch, Irina Pantaeva, Debbie Bancroft, Fern Mallis, producer Barbara A. Hall, HBO Co-President Richard Plepler and Cinema Society founder Andrew Saffir.
