Matt Kliegman and Carlos Quirarte, the boys behind the uber-trendy The Smile restaurant in Soho and the dance haven The Jane Ballroom are at it again, and this time, they’ve taken the ironic-hipster niche market to a whole new level. Taking over a once-strip club on an industrial street near the West Side Highway, the pair have opened Westway, part dive bar, part gentleman’s club. The 70s decor and brass stripper poles are bound to bring in the crowds this summer; that is if the promise of semi-nude models isn’t enough to get you going. After months of set backs, the club finally opened it’s doors last weekend with a word-of-mouth, relatively un-announced event that brought in just enough people to set the city abuzz. It’s sure to be the go-to spot for all the coolest parties this summer, so keep your eyes peeled and take a walk on the West Side.
