Nicole Miller’s show and party was a welcome antidote to the downward spiral of our current news cycle, as the designer’s Fall 2018 collection saluted strong and feminine women. Nicole’s past designs have been inspired by locales or eras, but this year, she declared that it was about ‘what real girls wear every day.’ Well…’real girls’ with style. Nicole combined camo with fluttering florals, military jackets, leather and fabulous fake fur. Continuing the zeitgeist, on each chair was a split of Prosecco for loosening up, but also wearable buttons warning ‘Don’t grab!’

Strutting down the runway at Industria Studios were two daughters of old friends: Chris and Stephanie Clark’s daughter Kate, and Camille and Kelsey Grammer’s daughter Mason (it should be noted, both couples are no longer, but they are still the parents!). Nicole had thought of using them last year, but they were too young.

As we have read, the audience trend is away from celebs—unless they are real, unpaid pals—and toward ‘influencers,’ of which there were many. Maybe I’m one. Appreciative first row guests included Richard Mishaan (off to Cartagena, where he is designing another hotel), Lisa Pevaroff Cohn (yes, as in Gary, and a very accomplished artist and jewelry designer in her own right), mother daughters—Helen and Storey Schifter and Janna and Zoe Bullock, Karen Klopp, Carol Alt, Boardwalk Empire’s Christine Seidel, Jay Snyder, Pierre Lagrange, Bettina Zilkha, Pam Taylor and Nicole’s son Palmer, looking very happy in Mom’s realm of beauty.

Post show, we toddled over to Slowly Shirley (I have no idea either, but love the name), for all the things we swore we wouldn’t eat after watching the gazelle parade.

And how does Nicole celebrate and recover? ‘My friends take me to Balthazar for a de-stress lunch. On Sunday, I cook something from the New York Times, and the following week, I go to other people’s shows.’
