August is a time for reflection but also for looking forward, and last weekend Stephanie and Jesse Newhouse opened up their Southampton home to introduce the Young Friends of the DreamBall committee and to kick-off the 2012 DreamBall After Dark. The Young Friends bash will benefit “Look Good…Feel Better,” a program of the American Cancer Society and Personal Care Products Council.

Co-chairs Erin Cohen and Liana Engel, along with Timo Weiland, Fern Mallis, Steven Beltrani, Elisabeth Kieselstein-Cord, David Lipke, designer Lorry Newhouse (who will make her Fashion Week debut this September); Stacy Engman; and Have to Have’s Carla Holtze and Kimberly Skelton enjoyed some chilled rose on this balmy Saturday late afternoon whilst admiring the estate grounds (dubbed “The Secret Garden” for its unique position in the center of the property) and catching up after a summer that seemingly flew by for everyone (but doesn’t it always?).

Like many junior charities, the DreamBall After Dark came about as a way for the young and stylish to raise money for an important cause at a lower price point.  In this instance, it was the brainchild of co-chairs Stephanie Newhouse, Liana Engel, and Erin Cohen. Newhouse, who along with her husband, had been looking for a way to support the American Cancer Society, was attracted to the “practical” nature of this particular program. “It’s so easy to give of your time and money when you know that your contribution will make an immediate and tangible difference to someone undergoing cancer treatment right now,” she told AVENUEinsider.

“My Uncle Jamie passed away from cancer related complications at age 29,” she continued. “Though he was strong and joked around about appearance related side effects to put people at ease, I know that the experience of not seeing himself when he looked in the mirror must have been devastating. The practical knowledge from participating in Look Good, Feel Better would have been useful, but the opportunity to be in a room with others undergoing the same thing and have a few hours of fun would have been amazing.”

The DreamBall After Dark will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street on September 27th. To buy tickets, or simply to make a contribution to this program, please visit www.TheDreamBall.org.
