The Couture Council’s Evening with Michael Kors

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Michael Kors’ Madison Avenue store was abuzz last night as the designer himself presented his Pre-Fall 2013 collection to members of the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT. The Council, which in September will be honoring Kors with the 2013 Artistry of Fashion Award, sipped on champagne and enjoyed gourmet hors d’oeuvres while getting an inside look at the fashion.

The store was transformed into an intimate runway show, where Kors spoke a bit about each piece and his inspiration behind the collection as models brought his designs to life. The outspoken designer referred to the term “Pre-Fall” as “The stupidest name for a season,” highlighting that he prides himself on designing clothing that can be worn at any time throughout the year. The collection is comprised of various materials ranging from leather to silken wool and heavily features black and nude with pops of bright pink.

After the clothes were shown, Council members had the opportunity to shop, gleaning fashion advice from Kors. Some of New York’s most prominent attended the event. AVENUEInsider spotted some of the Council’s heavyweights there, including Chair of the Board Yaz Hernandez, Valerie Steele, Jean Shafiroff, Liz Peek, Kamie Lightburn, Stephanie Loeffler, Carole Divet Harting, Michele Gerber Klein, Chiu-Ti Jansen, and Eleanora Kennedy. Guests left the event with gift bags that held MK Kauai aviator sunglasses in tow.
