On Wednesday, the Hope for Depression Research Foundation held its 11th annual HOPE luncheon at the Plaza. Founded by Audrey Gruss (who, along with her foundation, were profiled earlier this summer in AVENUE) in 2006, the Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF) is committed to the fight against depression.

The luncheon was emceed by Chuck Scarborough, and featured a keynote speech by Dr. Eric Nestler, a neuroscientist deeply involved in fighting depression. Ashley Judd was awarded the HOPE award. “I am in recovery from depression and about that I have no shame and I am a living example of why there is hope,” she told guests in an emotionally wrenching speech.

The day’s co-chairs were Ann Barish, Caroline Dean, Peter Gregory, Kim Heirston, Tania Higgins, Margo Langenberg, Kitty McKnight, Peter S. Paine III, and Serena McKnight Bowman. Additional guests included Frederick Anderson, Janna Bullock, Sharon Bush, Hilary Geary Ross, Jamee Gregory, Susan Gutfreund, Martin Gruss, Dayssi Kanavos, Kathy Hilton, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Karen LeFrak, Julie Macklowe, Scott Snyder, Jamie Tisch, Christine Mack and Jackie Weld Drake.
