The Hermione Project Hosts A Cocktail Party With Madame Ségolène Royal

Friday, September 26, 2014

On Monday, September 22, H.E. Bertrand Lortholary, Consul General of France & Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America hosted a Moët & Chandon Imperial champagne reception at the Consulate General of France in New York City. The guest of honor was Madame Ségolène Royal, the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. François Hollande, the current President of France, is the father of her four children.

The Hermione Project was founded twenty years ago, when a small group of visionaries met together in France and imagined reconstructing an exact replica of The Hermione, the French frigate that carried the young Lafayette to General Washington, pledging French support for the American insurgents. The result turned the tide of the American Revolution. As the year-on-year reconstruction became a regional, now national, attraction in Rochefort, the idea grew to recreate Lafayette’s voyage on The Hermione with a historic return to the iconic port cities of the American Revolution, celebrating and reaffirming the historical relationship between the United States and France.

At the reception guests learned about Lafayette’s Hermione Voyage of 2015 and the organization’s upcoming Black Tie benefit, which will be held on October 14 at The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The evening will honor Dr. Henry Kissinger, Christine Lagarde, and Charlie Rose.

The Hermione sets sail to the United States in summer 2015, making landfall at Yorktown and then proceeds up the coast to Mount Vernon, Washington D.C., Annapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Greenport, Newport, Castine, Maine, and then on to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia before heading home to France.

Guest who attended included: Qatari diplomat Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, VP & Global Business Leader at GlaxoSmithKline Helen Appleby, Ambassador of France to the United States H.E. Gerard Araud, Designer Renee Berger, Socialite Janna Bullock, Philanthropist Sharon Bush, Pastry Chef Fernanda Capobianco, Stylist Hillary Cooper, Founder of HINT Consulting Group Dovile Drizyte, Francis G.
