The Most Extravagant Valentine’s Day

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Cupid will soon arrive to New York City to bestow a loving and joyful Valentine’s Day to us. Lucky for him, his diaper has no pockets to hold his wallet, so it is up to us to foot the bill. If you already can’t afford the hospital bills after an arrow wound from Cupid, here are some ideas to put yourself in debt…of love.

For the Music-Lover Valentine

If your Valentine loves the classics, join the Metropolitan Opera for Gaetano Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love. Sit at the center of the orchestra for $1,181 per seat and watch Donizetti’s timeless romance set during Italy’s unification. Nemorino, a peasant, has fallen hard for the beautiful farm owner, Adina, but is unable win her affections. So he takes a special elixir from a quack doctor promised to make the drinker irresistible, and things quickly get out of hand. You may not be a peasant, but this opera shows that we all do crazy things for love. Let your Valentine know that you would do anything for them, too.

The R&R Valentine’s Day Gift

If your Valentine could use some rest and relaxation, the Gansevoort Hotel offers the “Get Pampered” package. Start your stay off with a fitness class at the Exhale Spa, followed by a Swedish massage or a facial. Enjoy complimentary drinks at the hotel’s rooftop bar. Then, settle into your presidential suite. Take a steam shower or soak in the jacuzzi, curl up by the fireplace, or bask in the beautiful view from the balcony offering enchanting views of the city that never sleeps. This luxurious “me time” will keep you relaxed until you see the bill because rates begin at $2,750 per night.

The Happy Glamper

If your Valentine loves the great outdoors, forget about the cold for a night with the Robes & Throws Valentine’s Day glamping package at AKA Central Park. Stay in one of the hotel’s penthouse “Sky Suites” and enjoy a 1,000-square-foot wraparound terrace with a wood-burning fireplace. Stargaze by the fire under a Mongolian Cashmere, take a chill-chasing steam shower for two, drink from complementary bottles of AKA’s branded wines and vodka  and have dinner from nearby Quality Meats delivered right to your door. You can even dine sans robe. Because you know what they say: “Less is more”. Rates begin at $3,200 per night.

If She Wants to Dance Like Uma Thurman

If your Valentine wants to stay out all night, forget dinner and a movie and give them the VIP Romance package from the Millennium Broadway New York Times Square Hotel. The Millennium Broadway is offering their Presidential Suite with a view of Time Square. You and your Valentine will be welcomed with a chilled magnum of 2003 Krug Clos du Mesnil (priced at $2,195), a set of two Swarovski crystal toasting flutes and two tickets to a performance of The Parisian Woman starring Uma Thurman. After the show, enjoy dinner for two at the hotel’s Bugis Street Brasserie, with a special dessert of strip chocolate cake and chocolate covered strawberries. And all for just $10,000. This is definitely not an average gift, but neither is your Valentine. Hopefully, neither is your checking account.

A Space Oddity

If you love your Valentine to the moon and back, give them a truly out-of-this-world gift. SpaceX can’t put you in a red Tesla convertible soaring into Mars’ orbit yet, but for just $250,000 per person, you and your Valentine can take a trip with Virgin Galactic. First, you’ll attend the Spaceport camp in New Mexico, where you’ll prepare yourselves psychologically and learn how to conduct in a space shuttle. Finally, in space, you’ll get to experience zero gravity and enjoy champagne with your fellow passengers as you celebrate your successful flight. Interstellar exploration and delving into the mysteries of space with a loved one can really put things into perspective But having someone at the center of your universe makes life a trip worth taking. Plus, you’ll be the envy of all earthlings when you post your #birdseyeview photo on Instagram!

For the Valentine with a College Student’s Taste on a Champagne Budget

For dessert, enjoy a Frrrozen Haute Chocolate at Serendipity 3 in New York for $25,000 dollars. It’s a blend of 28 cocoas from around the world infused with 5 grams (0.2 ounces) of edible 23-karat gold, served in a goblet lined with edible gold. At the base of the goblet is an 18-karat gold bracelet with a 1 carat diamond. The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound. It is eaten with a gold spoon decorated with white and chocolate-colored diamonds, which can also be taken home. Thankfully, you can maybe regift the jewelry for next year, to stay ahead of the curve.
