The Museum of the City of New York lures EVERYONE in New York

Friday, February 25, 2011

“I haven’t been to a party like this in a long time,” observed handsome Dennis Paul, standing with his beautiful wife Coralie Charriol Paul amongst the throngs of New York’s most social names at The Museum of the City of New York’s Director’s Council Winter Ball at The Plaza Hotel. “This is the type of party where you see everyone you know in a few hours.”

Paul was right on the money as the AVENUEinsider literally saw “everyone,” both downstairs for drinks and then upstairs for dinner of the Plaza Hotel. The night was sponsored by Oscar de la Renta, so of course there were Oscar de la Renta dresses worthy of the Oscar parties in Los Angeles this weekend. Eliza Reed Bolen, Eugenia Gonzalez and Erika Bearman were just three beauties decked in de la Renta. We flipped for Stephanie LaCava’s hot orange Jil Sander skirt worn with a plain white tee shirt. “It’s from American Apparel,” LaCava told us. Chicness.

The man of the night: Mark Gilbertson told guests that the evening had raised $500,000 for the museum which is currently under renovation. “This is the 25th anniversary of these parties,” Gilbertson said, surrounded by board members like Celerie Kemble, Calvert Moore, Shari Roepers, Allison Rockefeller and Phoebe Gubelmann. “I have been involved for all 25 years which I guess makes me sound old.” Mark – you look great and here is to 25 more years!

After dinner, Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” blasted throughout the gilded room and people hit the dance floor. Amongst the crowd? Get ready for a long list of names: Marjorie Gubelmann, Zani Gugelmann, Matthew Mellon and Nicole Hanley Mellon, Lauren Remington Platt, Valentin and Yaz Hernandez, Alexandra Lind Rose, Lynn Wyatt (who told the AVENUEinsider that she’d see us at the Vanity Fair Oscar party), Natalie Leeds Leventhal, Christian Leone, Douglas Hannant and Frederick Anderson, Elizabeth Meigher, Jamie Tisch, Edward Barsamian, Helen Lee Schifter, Scott Currie, Amy Fine Collins, Ulla Parker, Sylvester and Gillian Miniter, Alexandra Lebethal (looking very “Valley of the Dolls” chic), Vicky Ward, Hayley Bloomingdale and Bronson Van Wyck – to name just a dozen or so.
