The Rockefeller University 2nd annual Parents & Science “Celebrating Science” Benefit Lecture and Dinner will be held on October 2, 2013 on Rockefeller’s campus. The event will bring together world-class scientists, renowned child health care experts, and parents and grandparents interested in the most recent scientific advances revolutionizing our understanding of human development and diseases of childhood.

The evening will commence with a talk by Rockefeller Professor Robert Darnell, M.D., Ph.D. on “Your Child’s Medical Future in the 10X Genetic Revolution.” Dr. Darnell is one of the world’s leading geneticists and cancer biologists and was recently appointed President of the New York Genome Center. An elegant dinner under a tent on the campus esplanade will follow his presentation. Russ Carson, Chairman of the Board, will host the evening and proceeds will help create a new Center for Research on Child and Adolescent Health, as well as fund educational outreach initiatives for students and teachers in New York City.

The Rockefeller University is a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in the biomedical sciences, chemistry, and physics. The University was founded by John D. Rockefeller in 1901 as the nation’s first institute for medical research. Twenty-four researchers associated with Rockefeller throughout its history have been awarded the Nobel Prize. In 2007, The Rockefeller University established the Parents & Science initiative to heighten awareness within New York City’s parent community of the groundbreaking research being conducted by Rockefeller scientists. Since then, more than 2,000 parents have attended Parents & Science lectures to learn about the latest discoveries relevant to the care and nurturing of children from infancy through adolescence.
