NYC Winter Jazzfest 2018

Want to improve your scat skills? Check out the 14th annual NYC Winter Jazzfest, with events held throughout the city. Since its founding in 2005, Winter Jazzfest has cemented a reputation as a hotbed of cultural discovery, presenting new and exciting sounds and scenes throughout New York.

January 10-17, various locations

The Plaza x Downton Abbey: The Exhibition

Located at 218 West 57th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue, Downton Abbey: The Exhibition brings the television show to life. After strolling through the exhibit, head over to the Plaza Hotel, which has partnered with the popup to offer Downton Abbey themed tea and cocktails, including The Earl of Grantham, which is made with Earl Grey tea and Domaine de Canton ginger liqeur. The beverages will be served with complimentary British shortbread cookies. The promotion is running through the end of the month.

The Plaza Hotel, 768 Fifth Avenue

Shack Track & Field

We’re one week into the New Year, and studies show that most of us have probably already given up on our resolutions. Give them a jump start at the monthly Shack Track & Field—because if running, drinking and eating at Shake Shack doesn’t get you motivated to run, then we don’t know what will. Meet at the Upper East Side Shack at 7 p.m. for a free 3-5 mile community run, and enjoy a complimentary drink back at the Shack.

Tuesday, January 9

Shake Shack, 154 East 86th Street

Laura Owens at The Whitney

Now through February 4, the Whitney is showcasing a mis-career survey of Laura Owens, a Los Angeles based artist whose innovative approach to painting has made her one of the most influential artists of her generation. Come for the art, stay for the views along the icy Hudson.

The Whitney: 99 Gansevoort Street

As always, more week ahead ideas can be found on AVENUE’s Social Calendar.
