Titillate your Taste Buds at this year’s New Taste of the Upper West Side

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Attention, all epicures and gourmands . . .

Get ready to eat your heart out at 2014’s New Taste of the Upper West Side!

Backed by a crowd of noteworthy hosts and chefs, this year’s phenomenal food fest will feature a fantastic lineup of over 85 new and returning restaurants.

Created by the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District, the annual celebration donates all of its net proceeds to the community (raised funds go towards bettering the neighborhood as a whole by supporting projects such as the Columbus Avenue BID’s sustainable streetscape project and Wellness in the Schools program).

“Now in its seventh year, New Taste will again celebrate what makes the Upper West Side so special,” says Barbara Adler, executive director of the Columbus Avenue BID. “Beyond the fabulous chefs and food, it is an event that celebrates a great community helping to support its restaurants, businesses, schools, and so much more.”

The event’s festivities will begin on Tuesday, May 27th, with Soiree in the Park — a cocktail affair under the stars that will fete and benefit New York City’s Theodore Roosevelt Park (perhaps better known as the lush greenery surrounding the American Museum of Natural History). Attendees will be treated to lively music, limitless champagne and toothsome hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chris Wyman of Corvo Bianco, Cesare Casella of Salumeria Rosi ParmacottoRodney Mitchell of Calle Ocho, and Maria Loi of Loi.

The delectable fun will continue on Friday, May 30th, when Travel Channel’s Adam Richman and Food Network’s Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli (of Butter Restaurant), kick off the scrumptious weekend with the annual Comfort Classics Presented by Sysco.

The dynamite duo will oversee the competition, which will involve 40 restaurants from the UWS showcasing their most creative comfort dishes and vying for this year’s “Best Comfort Food Dish” award (last year’s victor, Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar, will be back to defend her title from a bevy of formidable new entrants including The Meatball Shop and Treat House, along with some old neighborhood faves such as Jacob’s Pickles and Luke’s Lobster!).

On Saturday, the 31st, Emmy award-winning TV personality, New York Knicks broadcaster, and TODAY show contributor Jill Martin will host Best of the West Presented by Ford, preceded by the event’s annual VIP Reception, under a resplendent white tent spanning 76th to 77th Streets along Columbus Avenue.

A plethora of elegant wines and spirits will readily complement the evening’s spotlighted victuals: exquisite dishes formulated by some of the UWS’s most renowned chefs, including Jean-Georges Vongerichten of Jean-Georges, Joe Ng of Red Farm, Jacques Torres of Jacque Torres Chocolates, and Joe Quintana of Rosa Mexicano.

The palatable night will conclude with a fervent tribute to world-famous chef Daniel Boulud, owner of Daniel, Café Boulud, Bar Pleiades, db Bistro Moderne, Bar Boulud, DBGB Kitchen and Bar, Boulud Sud, and Épicerie Boulud.

A spectacular gathering featuring ambrosial fare, cool cocktails, and heaps of good cheer, the seventh annual New Taste of the UWS is certainly an event gastronomes won’t want to miss!
