Glitter, glitter, and more glitter. It was a sparkly evening as presenters and patrons, both male and female, shimmered in sequins, rhinestones, and all things shiny at The 20th Annual Angel Ball for Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research at Cipriani Wall Street on October 22nd.

A darkened banquet hall was illuminated by individual candles lit by guests as host Denise Rich honored the memory of her daughter Gabrielle. Also leading the tribute to their sister and other cancer victims were Ilona Rich Schachter and Danielle Rich Kilstock, who told the audience that she not only communicates with her sister “daily,” but was listening to her at that very moment.

Michael Strahan introduced Spevak, his friend of over 20 years, saying, “the only the things that have grown more than his business are his heart, his philanthropy, and his willingness to give back to the city that has served him so well.”

Adding to the sparkle of the evening were speakers Amy France, Jason Flom, Dr. Stephan D. Nimer, Howard Lorber, and cancer survivor Samantha Mann, and performances by Julia Michaels, Morris Day and The Time, Evan and Ashley Simpson Ross, DJ Cassidy, and Darryl DMC McDaniels..

Also, a lucky fan won the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium. The trophy prize though was a “not yet on the market” 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster.

The gala raised over $3,000,000 for a group that, Dr. Miguel Perales, Deputy Chief of Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Service at Memorial Sloane Kettering, said “makes an invaluable impact on the research of blood cancers.”
