Vanidades Fete Their “Icons of Style”

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Last Thursday, Vanidades – the first and most widely read Spanish-Language Women’s lifestyle magazine in the States and Latin America – threw a true fiesta at the Mandarin Oriental to honor top fashion and style icons. Among those who made their way to the podium that evening – acceptance speeches at the ready – were Oscar de la Renta as well as actress (and newly minted New York & Co. designer) Eva Mendes.

The Veuve Clicquot infused cocktail hour was followed by a swift and entertaining awards presentation, hosted by Chiquinquira Delgado and Roselyn Sanchez – who attended acting classes with Mendes back in the day. “I’m actually very nervous, so I’m going to switch over to English,” Mendes quipped upon receiving the “Mujer Vanidades” award. Mr. de la Renta, who was presented with the “Iconic Man of Style Award,” reflected on how Vanidades influenced his early fashion career, and concluded his speech with a thank you to “all my brothers, the Latinos, because we are such an extraordinary community and give so much love.”

Among the other noteworthy guests were Polo player and certified hunk Nacho Figueras, who presented Jorge Posada with the Icon of Style Award for Sports; Emilia Fanjul, who presented the Icon of Style Award for Philanthropy and the Arts to Jackie Weld Drake; Orange is the New Black’s Selenis Leyva; Adrienne Bailon; Yaz Hernandez; artist Domingo Zapata; Angel Sanchez; and Alexa Rudolfo. Muy caliente indeed!
