Versace on Versace: Rocking the House

There is no question that Donatella Versace has an interesting and iconic story. She rose to fame as a fashion designer after her brother Gianni Versace's unfortunate murder, and became the head of design for what would grow to be one of the most world-renowned luxury fashion houses. In 1978, Gianni opened the brand's first boutique in Via della Spiga, Italy.

Since then, Versace has made its mark in a lot of ways, from the iconic paperclip dress that helped further catapult the brand to fame, to the launch of Versus Versace, the brand's more accessibly priced diffusion line. Donatella's Atelier Versace collections are also favorites of the celebrity red carpet crowd, editors and stylists who praise her for her most high-fashion and luxurious creations.

She has decided that the intimate, dramatic and romanticized history of the storied brand should be documented in a book. The designer has come together with Maria Luisa Frisa, a professor at IUAV in Venice who is a respected fashion critic, curator and author, W magazine editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi, Tim Blanks, the editor-at-large for Business of Fashion and Ingrid Sischy, a revered writer, critic and international editor of Vogue and Vanity Fair. The book will be published by Rizzoli.

This book has been one of the most long-awaited fashion history books of its time. For those who still remember Versace under Gianni, and who saw how Donatella transformed the brand for the twenty-first century, this book will quench that thirst they have had for a more intimate portrait of the legacy of the Versace brand.

The book, simply titled Versace, includes exclusive contemporary and archival imagery from runway and backstage shots to intimate scenes at the Versace atelier, with accompanying original essays penned by fashion’s most authoritative voices. Featuring photography by Richard AvedonSteven Meisel, and Mario Testino among many others, images of Versace fashions modeled by the original "supers," such as Christy TurlingtonNaomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista and red-carpet coverage of Hollywood’s elite wearing dazzling Versace couture, this volume delivers the magnetic vibrancy, supreme luxury, and charm that define Versace.

The book will be released in November 2016.
