Haunted Houses, Villages and Other Weekend Ideas

Friday, October 26, 2018

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to do over the weekend. In New York and the Hamptons, there are just too many options. Fortunately, AVENUE’s editors have put their collective heads together and come up with a few suggestions. And since it’s Halloween weekend, we thought we’d serve up the ghastliest, ghouliest ones we could find.

Found Footage

Boo! Governor’s Island will play host this weekend to “Found Footage,” an immersive haunted house experience mixing in multimedia, clues and more. Don’t get too spooked!

Governor’s Island, House 403

Open through Wednesday, October 31st

Halloween in Richmond Town

Boo! Did you know that Staten Island is home to New York’s most complete historic village? It’s called Richmond Town, and they’ll be doing a scream-tacular Halloween there this Saturday.

Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Avenue, Staten Island

Saturday, October 27th at 3 p.m.

Halloween Dog Contest

Boo! Halloween isn’t just for people—pups can get in on the fun too! There are multiple dog costume contests in the city this weekend, but we say go to the one in Washington Square Park (or is that Washington Square Bark?)

Washington Square Park, New York

Sunday, October 28th at 11 a.m.

Spirited Stroll

Boo! Green-Wood cemetery is one of New York’s great parks, and this Sunday, historian Jeff Richman will lead a fright-filled “Spirited Stroll” of some of its most ghoulish secrets.

Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn

Sunday, October 28th at 1 p.m.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Boo! Freddy Mercury and the boys from Queen were more than just a rock band—they had a compelling behind-the-scenes life too, as the exciting new biopic Bohemian Rhapsodyshows.
