Flowers, David Crosby and Other Weekend Ideas

Friday, June 8, 2018

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to do over the weekend. In New York and the Hamptons, there are just too many options. Fortunately, AVENUE’s editors have put their collective heads together and come up with a few suggestions, ranging from a floral wonderland to a folk rock legend. What unites them all is that they’re worth your time.

Movies in the Park

It’s officially summer movie season! So long as its warm, nearly every park will be showing some classic on the big screen, and this weekend is no different. There are many to choose from, but we suggest seeing John Carpenter’s Escape From New York on Governors Island.

The Parade Ground, Governors Island

Friday, June 8th at 7 p.m.

Georgia O’Keeffe at the New York Botanical Garden

Aloha! The New York Botanical Garden has a new Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition up, and there’s no better weekend than this one to go to it. See both the artist’s paintings of Hawaii and the flowers that inspired them.

New York Botanical Garden, 2900 Southern Boulevard, the Bronx

Through October 28

David Crosby

Long time gone?  Well, they’re baaack…all the songs of David Crosby this weekend! The mustachioed musician will perform at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, and Folks? We promise it’ll be better than deja vu.

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, 76 Main Street, Westhampton Beach

Saturday, June 9th at 8 p.m.

Los Lobos

Or, closer to NYC, head on down to the Prospect Park Bandshell and check out a free concert from Chicano rock sensation Los Lobos. We think it’ll be the bomb…or at least la bamba.

Prospect Park Bandshell, 141 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn

Sunday, June 10th at 3 p.m.

Puerto Rican Day Parade

Much of Fifth Avenue will be closed on Sunday for the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Celebrate Puerto Rican heritage with honorees including musician Lucecita Benítez and Yankees great Jorge Posada—or, use the whole thing as an excuse to stay out East later than usual. Traffic will be a nightmare!

Fifth Avenue from 42nd to 79th Streets, New York

Sunday, June 10th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

And for more things to do, be sure to check out Avenue’s Social Calendar.
