Some of New York’s most notable philanthropists gathered at Central Park Zoo for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Annual Gala.

This year, the theme was ‘Turning Tides’, intended to promote the importance of the oceans and the need for conservation. A movie of the same name was premiered at the benefit.

Honored at the gala were WCS Trustee Barbara Hrbek Zucker, real estate developer Donald Zucker and Executive Director of Monterey Bay Aquarium, Julie E. Packard, for commitment to Ocean Conservation.

Also among the guests were Signourney Weaver, Cobie Smulders, Marlene Hess, Gene McGrath, Cece Cord and Leonard Stern.

The black tie event featured cocktails by the sea lion pool and an outdoor dinner-dance. Money raised from the gala will support WCS’s five New York parks, education and global conservation programs.

The benefit also focused on the new exhibit opening at the WCS New York Aquarium, Ocean Wonders: Sharks! It is expected that when complete the exhibit will welcome almost one million visitors a year, and serve as a resource of marine conservation.
