Literary luminaries and lovelies assembled for the elegant Hunter College Writing Center’s 3rd anniversary dinner on March 13th. Held at Doubles, the event was private without being stuffy; guests forewent black-tie, and the customary prolix speeches were banished in favor of much lighter entertainment. The focus was thereby on conversation; director Lewis Frumkes intended the event as an opportunity for dialogue between his guests. This is demonstrative of the philosophy behind the unique writing center as a whole – its students are educated in the literary field of their choice by published authors in the same genre and a range of free events throughout the semester facilitate direct contact between audience and writer.

Enjoying the evening with co-hosts Frumkes and President Jennifer Raab were honoree Linda Fairstein and a host of best-selling authors and social lions including Lewis Lapham, Carol Higgins Clark, Lee Child, Susan Isaacs, Hilma and Meg Wolitzer, Malachy and Alphie McCourt, Bruce Jay Friedman, Ben Cheever, Dan Greenburg, Patricia Volk, Judith Kelman, Kitty Pilgrim, Enid Nemy, as well as Maurice Templesman, Denise LeFrak and John Calicchio, Artie and Jane Indursky, Dan Rose, Tina Flaherty, Lisa and David Schiff, Nabila Khashoggi, Jeannette Watson and Alex Sanger, Regina Peruggi, Matthew Patrick Smythe and others too numerous to mention.
