Audis. BMWs. Mercedes-Benzs. A bevy of car brands, moderns and classics, were on view at the Jacob Javits Center last Thursday, April 13, during the 18th annual preview of the New York International Auto Show. So was one non-automotive luxury brand, in the persons of Fe and Alessandro Fendi, of the Italian fur-and-fashion clan. Hosted by community-based non-profit organization East Side House Settlement, the event brought together nearly 1,200 guests who had a first look at the showcase before it opened to the public the following day at the west side venue.
The evening included cocktails, a private dinner for benefactors as well as a curated display of the new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. DJ Alex Merrell spun beats while a live auction was held by Courtney Booth Christensen with offerings including the 2018 Range Rover Velar.
More than $500,000 was raised to support East Side House Settlement’s goal in providing education and social services throughout the Bronx and northern Manhattan. Funds go towards school supply essentials such as tuition, textbooks and laptops for students in need.
Gala preview co-chairs included Philip L. Yang, Jr. and Christopher LaSusa, and benefit committee co-chairs included Samuel P.C. Dangremond, Stuart Orenstein, and Eric Wittenberg. The honorary scholarship chairs were Joss and David Sackler.
The New York International Auto Show is on view now until April 23.
