A little bit of Paris is coming to New York Fashion Week. Zadig & Voltaire has announced it will show its fall/winter 2017 collection here next month. The move comes as the brand expands its presence in this market. Currently, there are 25 Zadig & Voltaire stores in the U.S.
Recently, Thierry Gillier, the founder of the brand, purchased an apartment in New York City, and is also seeking to make the city a second home for his brand. Zadig & Voltaire, founded in 1997, has been sold in the U.S. for a decade.
Gillier and Zadig & Voltaire's creative director Cecilia Bonstom have always seen the New York market as very important. In the past, the brand staged runway shows in Paris, but three seasons ago they moved to a presentation style format. The company recently purchased a townhouse in Paris, referred to as "The House of Zadig." Wanting editors and buyers to experience the beauty of their new palatial pad, they held the presentations there.
Zadig & Voltaire bring accessible price points to New York Fashion Week. In its niche, known to the trade as advanced contemporary, items cost between $500 and $1200.
In honor of its 20th anniversary, and looking to the future, the Parisian brand is experimenting with a new approach. Expect collaborations with outside designers, a message that speaks to "the artist in everyone," as a brand spokesman puts it, and new advertising and imagery, too.
Despite this new approach to Fashion Week, Zadig & Voltaire will continue to put its stores and customer first, creating exceptional products rather than collections.
